Pink Residue in Showers (Seasonal Buildup – NOT Mold)

What is the pink residue?

This is NOT mold.

Pink / salmon-colored buildup in showers is a naturally occurring bacteria that appears more often during cooler months.

Why it happens more this time of year:

  • Hot showers + cold weather

  • Less ventilation (windows closed)

  • Moisture stays longer on grout, corners, and drains

  • Soap & conditioner residue feeds the bacteria

👉 This is seasonal, very common, and not caused by poor cleaning.

What does it look like?

You’ll usually see it:

  • In grout lines

  • In shower corners

  • Around drains

  • Along silicone caulking

✅ How to treat pink residue (IMPORTANT)

✔ Product to use:

AJAX Oxygen Bleach Cleanser

Where to use Ajax:

☑ Grout lines
☑ Shower corners
☑ Around the drain
☑ Lightly on caulk (do NOT scrub aggressively)

🧼 STEP-BY-STEP (SEE IMAGE BELOW)

  1. Remove soap residue first (rinse or ECOS APC)

  2. Apply Ajax ONLY to pink areas

  3. Scrub with a grout brush or hand scrubber

  4. Let sit 2–5 minutes if possible

  5. Rinse thoroughly

⚠️ Do NOT use Ajax on the entire shower
⚠️ Do NOT leave powder residue behind
