Coaching Guide for Trainers
Always be humble and have patience
Ask for feedback from the trainee
Be a good communicator
Teach efficiency and break it down
As you train explain what we don’t do and why
Remember to explain the why (because)
- Starting with the bathrooms on day one
- Walk them through how to set up with the right tools.
- Where do you start and finish and in what order? Explain why you do things in a certain order.
- How to effectively use the tools and on what
- How long should it take?
- Example “Ok Jen you will need to take your red towels that are for bathrooms ONLY!, trash bags, Comet cleanser, toilet brush, small brush, white pad, window cleaner, peroxide, dawn soap.”
- If they did not do a great job
- Talk to them about it and find a solution.
- Ask them why they feel they are struggling.
- Ask them what you can do to help them? Try to explain things differently – some people learn in different ways.
- Give them positive feedback about the things they are doing right.
- If necessary, have them do another day of bathrooms instead of moving on to the next checklist item.
- Example “It looks like the shower doors still have a lot of hard water on them and the toilet is still a little dirty around the hinges. Can I ask how you are cleaning those areas?. This is what I would do (give a solution based on the answer) in that way you don’t overwork the area or yourself and have great results. How can I help you further? Let’s game plan, find an action plan then do bathrooms again tomorrow at least in the first home, and see if we can get you to be a bathroom cleaning master!!”
- Follow the same process for all training areas and days.
- Always identify if we did a good job coaching/training.
- Ask them how we can help them.
- Make an action plan together.
- If they are not ready after 5 days don’t just pass them! We would rather invest more time in training people properly from the beginning.
- By the end of training day 5, your trainee must know how to do the following:
- Trainee can properly set up totes with all needed supplies.
- Trainee can identify the right product or tool for all situations and surfaces.
- Trainee knows how to prevent damage to a customer’s home.
- Trainee understand our safety requirements.
- Trainee knows our policies around checking in (on the way) and out of homes (driveway to driveway) and the requirements to call if leaving early or if they will be late.
- Trainee knows our BookingKoala checklist.
- Trainee knows the difference between a maintenance clean, a General Cleaning, A Top to bottom, and a Move In/Out Cleaning.
